You will write a mini-literature review on one of the topics from this module:
- Disability as Identity and Diversity
- Assessment of Students with Disabilities who are culturally or linguistically diverse
- The disproportionality of students of color in special education.
What is a literature review? A literature review is a summary that links information from multiple authors about a topic. The idea is to look for common themes among authors and then review to see if they are in agreement or disagreement on the topic.
The literature review is NOT a summary of each of the authors work but instead links what is known in the field on the topic.
The literature review is NOT what you think about the topic (with the exception of the introduction and conclusion where you can provide context and background on the topic).
Expectations for this assignment:
- Integrated synthesis that summarizes common themes from 4 journal articles.
- Analysis of the themes that shows agreement and discrepancy among authors.
- Error free written in APA style for both in text citations and reference page.
A word about what constitutes a professional journal:
A professional journal is a scholarly journal addressed to a particular professional audience such as doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, or accountants and published by a professional organization. They may contain research articles, reports, and practical articles applicable to the profession. Professional journals can be a source of research for the profession, such as Reading Teacher.
